The Black and White Doll

Very interesting video clip, sad but true. I'm interested as to what fellow adoptive families think, please comment.

That is very heartbreaking. I wonder if there anyone has done a larger study? And maybe with different minority groups? This is very interesting...in a sad way.

Those poor kids! How terrible for them. Time does not move forward it seems for some. Thanks for sharing, it was very thought provoking.

in grad school we looked at similiar experiments dealing both with race and gender issues and it was disheartening to discover that very little process has been made in this area....children continue to "asborb" cultural "rules" about what is preferable....white dolls over other dolls, "traditional" boy toys for boys and "traditional" girl toys for girls....
but the saddest, to me, is the results of studies like this one...to think that "white is better" is still the over-riding cultural message in today's world depresses me to no end.

Thank you for sharing that. It was very interesting. I'm glad it seems to be making more people discuss the issues of race.

As you may remember, Ange, I was adopted as an infant and from the moment that I was told (about age 5) it was presented as "special" and chosen through love. That magic ingredient that you will both give to that small person in abundance will allow him/her to leap any of the racial hurdles that remain when that day comes. Self-worth through love will win !
