Growing Up

seriously how handsome can one child be??

Lately Owen has been acting so much older almost like a school aged kid :) It's really easing my mind to see how ready I think he is for kindergarten in the fall. He's interacting with kids at play groups differently, he's not shy at all and he's always asking kids if they want to play with him. Before I realize it he's made some friends for the day and he's off running around and playing with them. It's been nice to see him meet some other boys his age to play with and see the fun games they come up with. Yesterday at a local play place he played pirates with a group of boys on a play structure and they were really getting into some good fun, I almost hated to have to leave and go home for lunch!

We enrolled Owen in a half day camp during the March break to start a getting him ready for school and the "mommy will pick you up later" routine. Some kids were crying when they were dropped off and he gave me a kiss and hug goodbye and was off to have fun! Because we spend all day everyday together it was nice for me to see him like that. When I went to pick him up I went early to peek in and see how he was doing and he was fully participating, laughing and having a great time! he came running out the gym doors and gave me a big hug, and told me about all the fun he had. We have plans to enroll him in a summer half day camp prior to school to further help the transition to kindergarten...for both him and I :)

Until this past week Owen would go to sleep in his own room without any problems, but if he would wake during the night he'd always end up coming into our room and going back to sleep in our bed (probably 80% off the time) We didn't fight the issue we always felt he would stay in his own bed when he was ready, but we were growing increasingly concerned as we get closer to the new baby. The past couple of weeks Gavin and I were starting to talk about ways to get Owen to stay in his bed every night, and what do you know he's done it on his own! with no encouraging from us he has slept in his bed all night for the past 7 nights and if he wakes up to go to the bathroom he returns to his own bed! This has made for a very happy mommy and I have been enjoying the extra sleep and more space! I am so proud of him and am even happier that we didn't have to push him to to it, he did it on his own like a big boy! I realize it's only been a week and he may change his mind on his new sleeping habit but knowing he can do it and is comfortable doing it makes us feel better and we aren't as nervous to make him do something he might not have been ready for.

I love you Owen!

Oh so handsome!!

I've noticed him maturing too! Caring for the other kiddos and the more mature questions he asks. What a little sweetie you have there! He melted my heart when he gave Hannah the hug this morning!

Yay for sleeping on his own. Now, as long as Hannah doesn't try that we're all good! I think that transition is going to be much harder on mommy!

It is harder for mommy - I miss having him beside me where I could snuggle him all i wanted :) but realistically i know it's best for him and it's a good sign for us adoptive parents that read into everything :)

If that little face were in my JK next year I would be completely in love even before he said or did a thing...

Thanks Sam! I wish he were in your class next year, if only we lived closer :)

Wow! Owen really is making it easy for Mom, isn't he? I hope he continues to like school and that he loves camp this summer.

Oh, and congratulations on the new baby. Apparently I've been away from friends' blogs a little longer than I though. :-)
